AnnotationRecent studies indicate that older people's attitudes toward computers are improved after brief training sessions. The present study explores the utility of the attitude construct as a predictor of computer use. 39 older people were trained to use the ELDER-COMM electronic bulletin board system, and then to use it as much as they liked for two months. Study participants - particularly frequent users - had a more positive attitude towards computers than an unselected group. The most important predictor of continued use was success at initial training. Age, education and income did not predict continued use, despite strong effects of these variables in US national samples. (RH).
