AnnotationWeekly group sessions of mental aerobics are designed to enhance older people's self-esteem and cognitive functioning. The emphasis is on having fun, sharing ideas, and finding solutions to challenging problems. The counsellor/facilitator brings along puzzles, logic problems, and maths and word problems to be solved. Older people who may no longer believe they can produce creative answers and solve such problems are encouraged to believe in themselves by their own successful performance. The format is adaptable, and can be changed to fit a variety of settings, including intergenerational ones. (RH).
