Annotation | This progress report follows an earlier paper on incomes in retirement in the United Kingdom (UK) (Hutton, 1996). It discusses developments in the debate on pension and retirement income issues, outlines policy developments, and identifies questions to be asked in evaluating the Government's review of pensions. Specific issues discussed include the following: more equal pension provision for men and women; funded versus pay-as-you-go (PAYG) pension schemes; and the role of the state pension; progress of the minimum pension guarantee.
