Author(s)Gillian Cohen, Stephanie Taylor
Journal titleAgeing and Society, vol 18, part 5, September 1998
Pagespp 601-610
KeywordsMemory and Reminiscence.
AnnotationThis paper questions assumptions about reminiscence and looks at definitions of it. Functions of different types of reminiscence are examined, including integrative, instrumental, transmissive, escapist, obsessive and narrative reminiscence, and distinctions are drawn between these and autobiographical memories. Methodologies of eliciting reminiscences are critically considered, and types and amount of reminiscence are related to life style and age group. (AKM).
