AnnotationThe purpose of the review is to assess the extent to which local people in Northamptonshire are well served by social services. It gives a profile of the authority; considers how well the authority responds to users' needs; and assesses evidence regarding the effectiveness of planning for the needs of the population and how well resources are managed. The review concludes that people in Northamptonshire are not consistently well served by their social services, but there is evidence of prioritisation of high risk cases. Examples of good practice identified include: a Community Access and Language Service (CALS) for ethnic communities; a range of advocacy services; Gharana Home Care Services (home support packages to people of Asian origin); and a fast response service pilot offering round the clock access to the home care service. Key issues identified relate to managing change and developing stronger strategic partnerships with other services by which to achieve shared objectives. (RH).
