AnnotationIn April 1996, Bristol was established as a new unitary authority with the same boundaries as the former Bristol City Council. The purpose of the review is to assess the extent to which the people of Bristol are well served by social services. While continuity of services was achieved during reorganisation, it is known that a range of services need improvement. The review presents a profile of Bristol Social Services, and considers: meeting individuals' needs; shaping services; managing performance; and managing resources. Priorities for action identified include: defining strategic priorities and targets for each user group with consistent thresholds of intervention; creating comprehensive systems for commissioning and monitoring services; revising current management arrangements and reviewing required skill-mixes; and making joint working with other agencies more effective in improving services.
