Annotation | In this guidance, the term "serious communicable disease" applies to any disease which may be transmitted from human to human, and which may result in death or serious illness. It particularly concerns, but is not limited to, infections such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosis and hepatitis B and C. This guidance expands on advice in the General Medical Council (GMC) booklet, "Good medical practice", in relation to the treatment of patients with serious communicable diseases, and the responsibilities of doctors who may have such diseases.
