AnnotationThis guide, issued together with Health Service Circular HSC 1999/023, builds on the recommendations in the NHS Executive report `Making a difference, strengthening volunteering in the NHS' (1996). It aims to help members of National Health Service (NHS) trust boards and managers of volunteers to identify key volunteering issues, in order to develop successful policies and good practice in their own area. Specific topics covered include the following: managing volunteers; good practice guidelines related to staff-volunteer relations, recruitment, ethnic minorities, training and induction; insurance; and employment status of volunteers. A number of case studies are presented as examples of health service providers involving volunteers. (AKM).
