Annotation | The provisions of the White Paper, "Modernising social services" are likely to have significant implications for independent sector organisations, local authorities, health authorities, and the voluntary sector. Papers at this conference analyse the proposed changes, and assess the challenges of new approaches to regulation for the social care sector. Each speaker offers a particular perspective: implementation of regulation, the responsibility of the Department of Health (DoH); regulation and inspection in a social services department (SSD); implications for independent providers of care; implications for the National Health Service (NHS) and nursing homes; national standards vs local authorities; regulation for domiciliary care; and the impact on the home care market. Gillian Dalley, Director of the Centre for Policy on Ageing (CPA) poses the question, "Will legislation secure a better home life?". The final paper, by a lawyer, considers the legal implications of inspection and regulation of care, as outlined in the White Paper. (RH). |
