Annotation | This report presents essential service standards for the National Health Service (NHS) care of older people. It refers to statutory and Patient's Charter rights and standards, and recommendations and obligatory requirements from Royal colleges and other relevant national bodies are also included. Following an introductory section, the report is divided into eight sections, covering standards for the following areas: health and social care in the community; hospital-based services, including accident and emergency (A&E), outpatient services, day hospital and rehabilitation services; communication policies, including referral practice, record keeping and discharge communication; patients' dignity, including consent, confidentiality, privacy, complaints; ethnic and cultural issues, elder abuse, and death and bereavement; prevention of falls; care for older patients with dementia; management of stroke; and clinical audit and service monitoring. Two sample accreditation statements with supplementary standards and required evidence are included. (AKM). |
