Annotation | A sample of 434 people aged 60 and over and living in the community in the Boston metropolitan area, who reported fear of falling and associated activity restriction, were recruited for this US study. Data were collected at baseline, and at 6-week, 6-month and 12-month follow-ups. Compared with 218 contact control subjects, the 216 assigned to the intervention group reported increased levels of intended activity and greater mobility control immediately after the intervention. Effects at 12 months included improved social function and mobility range. The intervention had immediate but modest beneficial effects, but these diminished over time without the benefit of further booster sessions. (RH). |
