AnnotationIn response to the growing older population and the special health care needs of older people, primary care residency programmes have started to increase their geriatric content, focusing on improving attitudes toward older people. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a geriatrics attitudes scale, measuring attitudes toward older people and towards caring for older people. A 14-item scale was developed and tested on primary care residents. The instrument demonstrated high reliability and known groups and construct validity. Attitudes were progressively more positive with more medical training, and residents with greater career interest in geriatrics scored higher than those less interested. Cross validation results supported the reliability and validity of the instrument. Longitudinal data showed significantly different trends of attitude changes over a 2-year period. (AKM).
