AnnotationA secondary analysis was conducted using a portion of the data obtained during the United States (US) Department of Agriculture's (USDA) 1989-91 Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals (CSFII) and the Diet and Health Knowledge Survey (DHKS). People aged 65 years and over who completed both portions of the survey were studied to determine whether diets met the RDA and what factors contributed to dietary adequacy. Diets were inadequate in 16.7% of the participants. Nutritional knowledge and the possession of positive attitudes and beliefs also contributed positively, but weakly, to increased dietary adequacy.
