Annotation | Some insights into the social exclusion problems of older people have been gained in a study financed by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) under their Population and Household Change Research Programme, which examined changes in their family and community networks. Bethnal Green was one of the localities examined in the 1950s study, "Family and kinship in East London" by Michael Young and Peter Willmott. The ESRC project explores how life has changed for older people, especially those living in urban areas, and whether family ties are still important in handling the problems associated with growing old.
