Annotation | The emphasis is on the demographic dimension of ageing, complemented by features on the socioeconomic impact of ageing. The atlas is divided into sections, each illustrating specific aspects such as: evolution of ageing in the world; population growth and fertility; life expectancy and mortality; typology of age structure; demographic dimensions of ageing; economic aspects of ageing; and social environment. To evaluate the pace of demographic transformation, variables are presented for three specific points in time: 1975, 1997 and 2025. A major problem is the availability and reliability of data on a global scale. Basic demographic data for 1997, 2025 and 2050 come from the International DataBase (US Bureau of the Census), which is the most up-to-date projection scenario. Demographic data for 1975 are from the United Nations (UN, 1997). Other sources include the World Bank and various other UN agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO). (RH). |
