Annotation | Reminiscence work can be useful and beneficial to all client groups, not just older people. In this book, leading exponents of reminiscence work describe the purposes and techniques of reminiscence, and set out detailed guidelines on how to implement and conduct reminiscence activities with different types of client. Reminiscence should be looked at in the context of positive mental health, and the authors separate out the different aims of reminiscence. These cover: assessment and treatment; psychotherapy for life review, or to help in the creation of a positive identity; helping carers communicate to those with disabilities; training staff in groupwork; and improving staff understanding of the individual, and using reminiscence as a working philosophy. Examples illustrate each reminiscence purpose in action, and link theory with practice. (RH). |
