Annotation | Reminiscence is not an answer to all the problems posed by dementia, but it is a very useful tool in raising the self-esteem of people with dementia. This article describes examples of projects. Attention is drawn to the concept of personhood - espoused by Tom Kitwood and John Killick - which involves respecting the person with dementia as a person who has a history, is a being, and needs to be respected. Reminiscence seems to encapsulate these ideals. (RH). |
