AnnotationRecent research in the Netherlands shows a considerable fear of technological equipment at all ages, but particularly among older people. Training in new information technology (IT) should encourage senior citizens to participate in the development of the information society. A "digital driving licence" can help to develop self-esteem in a quickly changing world, and can be a tool in using IT. Integrating older people into the information society is now an issue in Europe. Seniors' organisations all over Europe are trying to prepare to jump on the "Internet train". This article describes problems and perspectives in the use of IT by and for older people, and discusses educational initiatives. (RH).
