Annotation | Typologies aim to enhance understanding and bring simplified meaning to complex phenomena. In this article, the findings of a study are explored in an attempt to develop a typology of older people who are retired, or contemplating retirement, and who enjoy learning as a form of leisure. The typology describes six types of leisure learners who are Elderhostel participants in the US and Canada: activity-oriented, geographical guru, experimenter, adventurer, content-committed, and opportunist.
