The need for geriatric care services in Ghana | Author(s) | Y Duodu |
Journal title | Southern African Journal of Gerontology, vol 7, no 2, October 1998 |
Pages | pp 33-34 |
Keywords | Health services ; Ghana. |
Annotation | The rate of population ageing in developing countries is such that the proportion of the population aged 60+ will treble from 1980 to 2025. In Ghana, the numbers of older people will increase from 548,000 to 1.7 million over this period. While the establishment of geriatric services in Ghana may not be regarded as so pressing as economic and political needs, this opinion paper puts the case for developing a dedicated health care system that will best serve older people's needs.
