AnnotationFoot care is offered by a range of health care professionals, but its provision is poorly co-ordinated. Best placed to provide the service are graduate podiatrists or chiropodists. With the failure of proposals in 1991 for a fully integrated hospital foot service under the auspices of a College Commission on the Provision of Surgical Services (COPSS), it has been left to the podiatry profession to widen access for foot surgery and routine foot care services to groups such as older people. This article also presents some typical foot problem case histories. (RH).
