Annotation | The role of housing in the care of older people is becoming even more important. During 1996, two major pieces of legislation affecting the housing of older people came into force: the Housing Act 1996, and the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996. The consequences of these Acts are assessed, particularly in the light of restrictions on local authority expenditure. For example, whereas previously help with repairs for poorest older home owners was mandatory, such support is now only discretionary. (RH). |
