Writing it out John Killick on a creative approach to personal development | Author(s) | John Killick |
Journal title | Open Mind, no 95, January/February 1999 |
Pages | pp 22-23 |
Keywords | Writing ; Poetry ; Therapy ; Dementia. |
Annotation | "Writing it out" is a phrase which has more than one meaning where therapeutic writing is concerned. The author describes how he works with people with dementia who lack the ability to reason about the process in which they are engaged, and who cannot even remember what they told him a few minutes previously. There has been a growing recognition in recent years of the value of writing for healing as well as for creativity. Reference is made to two Jessica Kingsley publications: "The self on the page" edited by C Hutt and F Sampson published recently; and "The therapeutic potential of creative writing" by G Bolton to be published in 2000.
