AnnotationThe EURAG Working Group of Romance Countries sees this compendium on the theme of communication as a strong incentive to change things, act upon ideas, decrease prejudices, improve services and diversify their organisations, as well as to change the attitudes of older people themselves. Contributions are under five main themes: the challenges for professionals (nursing staff, residential care staff, doctors, and better communication with mentally dependent people); communication as a challenge for residential and nursing homes; older people and communication; communication as a factor of social life and civic commitment; images in society and cultural forms of expression (e.g. poetry); and communication and architecture. It is evident that not only should others change to improve their relationships with older people, there must also be a change in the older people themselves in their behaviour and attitudes towards their contemporaries as well as other generations.
