Annotation | Social policies in South Africa under apartheid favoured the white population at the expense of other racial groups, and generally militated against "successful ageing". While the Department of Welfare has formulated policies for older people, the health ministry has not. This article assesses the extent to which progress has been made since the first fully democratic elections of 1994. (RH). |
