Annotation | This article describes an action learning project carried out between September 1996 and February 1997 with a small group of provider manangers and staff from Leicestershire and Leicester social services departments (SSDs). The project aims were a mixture of training, practice support and action research, and demonstrating the virtues of being SMART - that is, setting goals that are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-scaled. Through the medium of an action learning group, it was hoped that participants would learn about the processes involved in planning and managing change in their own areas of work - in this instance, services for people with mental health needs or learning disabilities. This article evaluates the project, which was run during a period of major structural change resulting from local government reorganisation. (RH). |
