Annotation | The relationship between older people and the technology needed to gain access to the Internet is examined in a literature review. Many older people do not have access to IT (information technology), and they may have retired before personal computers (PCs) were widely available in the workplace. Just as likely as barriers to use of IT by older people are physical and cognitive disabilities. Despite such drawbacks, some research has indicated that with training and practice, older adults are able to learn new skills. In addition, forthcoming developments in interactive television technology may help older people to gain access to the Internet. Meanwhile, increased availability in public libraries is most likely to provide the best opportunities for access to the Internet by older people. (RH). |
