Annotation | This study explored the factors that predict anticipation of future caregiving by older mothers, their daughters, and their granddaughters in 33 three-generation families. Results indicated that daughters' tendency to discuss future caregiving with others was predicted by their mothers age but not health. Dyadic relationship quality predicted granddaughters' but not mothers' or daughters' anticipation of care needs. Internal locus of control was associated with more preparation for caregiving. The effect of filial obligation was moderated by dyadic relationship quality (for daughters) and health (for mothers). Implications for practitioners and policy makers are discussed. (AKM). |
