AnnotationAn international conference was convened by the International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA) in 1996, Lansdowne, Virginia, to review the current knowledge of behavioural disturbances of dementia and to reach consensus in five areas: nosology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and research directions. This special issue contains the papers in summary format, as well as the ensuing discussions, presented at the conference. This second section focuses on behavioural disturbances of dementia in the current nomenclature system, and covers the following: diagnostic classification of neuropsychiatric signs and symptoms in patients with dementia; practical and conceptual issues in behavioural disturbances of dementia; and behavioural disturbances in DSM-IV and ICD-10.
