AnnotationMintel were asked to investigate and quantify the level of under-provision today's working people were facing in their retirement. The analysis covers only those in current employment - full-time and part-time, self-employed and employed - and is based on analysis of their current recorded contributions, their current income and age. Contributions were then grossed forward and adjusted for investment growth, price and wage inflation, with age at retirement based on state retirement age. A pension was then calculated based on a calculated average level term annuity rate and its proportion of expected final salary calculations. The analysis used categorises working people into five bands reflecting their current ability to provide for retirement: the ideal retirement (two-thirds or more of final salary); comfortable (half to two-thirds of final salary); satisfactory (40-50% of final salary); difficult (25-40% of final salary); and poverty line (less than 25% of final salary). The tables examine the results obtained from calculations, and reflect absolute numbers and the percentages of the working population within the five ranges described. (RH).
