AnnotationA postal survey of all front-line staff with a care management role in Wales was conducted in 1995, with a selected sample follow-up in 1997. The aim was to investigate practitioner experience of the community care reforms. This bulletin reports on the findings of the two main groups of community care professionals: social workers and nurses (community nurses and community psychiatric nurses). It summarises stress levels, satisfaction and practice changes since the introduction of the reforms. Most practitioners reported increases in stress, and analysis implicates workload as a contributory factor. Even so, these results need to be treated with caution, given the low response rates of 31% and 30% for these surveys. (RH).
