AnnotationA postal survey of all front-line staff with a care management role in Wales was conducted in 1995, with a selected sample follow-up in 1997. The aim was to investigate practitioner experience of the community care reforms. This bulletin summarises findings relating to the roles and tasks of practitioners in assessment, arranging services, and undertaking direct and indirect work. Changes in work patterns have been characterised by large caseloads, an emphasis on formal services, deskilling of professional work, and less contact with clients. Overall, however, the results need to be treated with some caution, given the low response rates of 31% and 30% to the surveys. (RH).
