AnnotationThis report sets out the emerging findings of the external reference group (chaired by George Alberti and Graham Winyard) which is advising the Department of Health (DoH) on the National Service Framework (NSF) for coronary heart disease (CHD). The scope of the NSF for CHD is defined. Chapter 2 describes a set of fundamental values and guiding principles which provide the foundation for policies for CHD that promote health and reduce inequalities, raise the quality of clinical care, and reduce variations in access to, and quality of services. Criteria for standards, intervention and performance indicators are outlined in Chapter 3. Key priorities in developing the NSF are identified. The document aims to assist health and local authorities and their partner agencies to begin planning for implementation of Health Improvement Programmes from April 1999. (RH).
