Annotation | The author examines whether health authorities are overestimating the future financial burden of providing drug treatment for patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) She concludes that decisions to prescribe anti-dementia drugs such as donepezil (sold as Aricept) and Exelon will delay entry into institutional care, and reduce the length of time for which patients require the most expensive care.
