AnnotationThe Employers Forum on Age (EFA) commissioned this report, to assess the overall economic cost to the nation of failing to make full use of the talents of older workers who want to be employed, but are not. This paper suggests that institutionalised ageism is costing the British economy some £26 billion annually. It presents graphs and statistical tables to illustrate the effects of ageism in employment on public expenditure, economic activity, disguised unemployment, and non-employment. Projections are made to the year 2011 of the likely costs of policies which continue to espouse ageism in employment. (RH).
