Annotation | Following a policy decision four years ago, the former Berkshire County Council funded more than one hundred projects targeted at people with lower level needs. Research of two projects for older people and carers revealed a range of social and economic gains, including delayed admission to residential and nursing home care. Preventive projects offer significantly more cost-effective services and divert users and carers from using mainstream services either for a sustained period or permanently. This article outlines the research methodology, as well as the outcomes and benefits for users, the social services department (SSD), partner agencies, and the local community. (RH). |
