Annotation | The author describes some of the principles guiding the design of homes suitable for people with dementia, and how practice varies in different parts of the world. The article features examples of group housing: Moorside, a care home with day centre and respite provision for St John's Charity in Winchester; small flats at Hasselknuten near Gothenburg which are an example of the Swedish `gruppeboende'; Anton Pieckhofje, Haarlem, the Netherlands, an almshouse-type arrangement; and The Meadows in New South Wales, Australia, a purpose built hostel or residential home for dementia sufferers who need less than regular 24-hour care.
