AnnotationThe financing and delivery of long-term care is high on the policy agenda in the United States (US) as in many other countries. This book aims to advance the debate on how to fund long-term care services. The first part presents an overview of the challenges facing individuals, families and societies in view of the worldwide demographic changes. The second part outlines proposals for improving the financing of long-term care, including: a model to standardise private insurance policies; a public/private partnership; a managed care model integrating acute and long-term care; and a social insurance model based on social security. In the third part, the proposed models are critically analysed, and the long-term care system in the US is compared with those in seven other countries: Canada, Germany, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom (UK).
