Annotation | Although it is difficult to measure its magnitude, elder abuse is known to occur and more often to involve family members. This article outlines the types of abuse and those factors which may be responsible, such as changes in human and spiritual values. To prevent abuse, older people should realise that they have reached a stage where they have to earn - and not demand - the respect of their children. In general, people should be prepared to discuss matters with a professional counsellor, so that problems can be solved at an early stage. (RH). |
