Annotation | In 1991, Havering Social Services Department (SSD) began to research the needs of people with dementia and their carers. Barking, Havering and Brentwood NHS Trust, Age Concern Havering, and the Alzheimer's Disease Society (ADS) have also been involved. Strategies were developed, and with support from the ADS, the Havering Community Dementia Service was opened at the Petersfield Centre in Harold Hill in December 1997. This article outlines the range of services offered, including support groups, social events, a library, and a memory clinic. The sharing of knowledge and experience of dementia also means that the different agencies involved can influence each other to provide an even better service. (RH). |
