KeywordsPrivate enterprise ; Social policy ; United States of America.
AnnotationThere are few aspects of government in the US for which private enterprise does not play an important role. Conversely, government activities can also create opportunities for private enterprise. The "market" has been promised as a way of solving funding problems: Social Security and Medicare are given as examples of services funded by private insurance in the US. If this is unpalatable, alternative solutions have to be suggested. (RH).
