Annotation | Taking the views of residents of homes into account is an important objective in the context of community care reforms. This article describes the development in Australia of a systematic, credible approach to realising that objective, and recommends a similar application in the UK. Reference is made to the Centre for Policy on Ageing (CPA) being commissioned to develop benchmark standards in care homes. Other quality assurance systems are cited. The three stages of the Australian project are outlined: construction of survey instruments; testing of instruments and development of draft manual; and testing of manual and production of final version. The article concludes with comments on the relevance of this approach for the UK. (RH). |
