Annotation | Family therapy with older people aims to foster better relationships between family members of different generations, and more specifically, to achieve more appropriate support and independence for older family members. However, there is limited literature and clinical applications of systematic family work with older people. Health professionals appear to be sceptical about the efficacy of this treatment mode with older people, while others found a negative correlation between age and patients participating in family therapy. This article outlines major family therapy approaches, their focuses and techniques, and cites literature sources. (RH). |
