AnnotationThe aim of the paper was to show behavioural evidence that people with severe dementia may maintain a relative state of well-being. Research was carried out over 2 years in 26 residential settings, and including 132 people with severe dementia. Results indicate a clear link between clinical judgements of well-being and the presence of specific behaviours which are believed to relate to underlying well-being. These behaviours are considered in terms of their strengths and presence in the applied setting. The paper concludes that there is a great deal of evidence to support the hypothesis that people with dementia may retain a relative state of well-being. (RH).
