Annotation | The author reports on the setting up and running of a memory group for clients of a day hospital, many of whom were experiencing a dementing illness. The aims were to: identify individual group members' memory difficulties; provide an ongoing explanation of how memory works; discuss interventions which assist the registration and recall of information; consider internal and external factors influencing memory ability; and create a friendly and supportive environment in which individuals have the opportunity to share their experiences of a failing memory. The article outlines session contents, evaluates the group, and suggests improvements to strategies used. (RH). |
