Annotation | There is great variation in the quality of care in US nursing homes received by the some one million residents with mental disorders. Using Donabedian's structure, process and outcome model of quality, this study examines the degree to which organisational structures affect the quality outcomes experienced by nursing home residents with mental disorders. Several structural factors are significantly associated with each of the quality outcomes: mood, social engagement, behavioural problems, cognitive performance scale scores (CPS), activities of daily living (ADLs), and mortality. Thus, these mental health outcomes are not solely dependent upon resident characteristics. (RH). |
