Annotation | US research suggests that chronically ill, disabled older people prefer to receive care at home rather than in nursing homes. However, the costs of care continue to rise, because the numbers of over 85s who are most at risk are growing at a faster rate than the rest of the population. This study presents an economic analysis of the Generalized Linear Model, which was used to investigate the relationship of monthly service costs to eligibility variables. The presence of cognitive impairment has a significant impact on the costs of care and on assignment to capitation levels. The likelihood of assignment to a high-cost category is discussed in terms of the impact on case mix and potential impacts on state-provided care. (RH). |
