Annotation | Personality assessment in chronic care populations is becoming recognised as an important area of inquiry. This article reviews recent literature on personality changes in dementia, and concludes that, in the absence of adequate paradigms, informant data is unavoidably required. The NEO-PI (Personality Inventory) currently has the strongest claims to inter-rater reliability, stability and convergent validity of informant assessments of personality in dementia, and is emerging as the standard instrument in the field. The article also discusses methodological issues in the assessment of personality disorders in cognitively intact but persistently depressed older patients. (RH). |
