| Annotation | Before Medicare, 50% of older Americans had no health insurance, and those with coverage usually found it inadequate. Now that they all have health care coverage through Medicare, this access to care has increased their life expectancy. However, older Americans spend a high percentage of their income on health care, because of health care needs not covered by Medicare. The author therefore advocates additional measures to redress this. (RH). |
