AnnotationResearch projects focused on Latino communities face tremendous challenges in reaching groups that may be isolated and highly suspicious of "outsiders". Consequently, it is essential for researchers to develop methods that systematically involve these communities in all aspects of the process. Community involvement increases in importance when quantitatively derived data raise puzzling questions. This article reports on the use of a community forum of Puerto Rican older people to help interpret results from a survey study in a large New England city. Older Puerto Ricans have a high rate of disability and are encountering significant barriers to receiving assistance. A series of recommendations are made to assist researchers and organisations in using this qualitative method with Latino older people. (AKM).
